Antique Victorian gold, pearl and onyx intricate mourning pendant

A rare and intricate Victorian mourning pendant in fine vintage condition, featuring a central rectangular onyx surrounded by two sets of pearls. The back of the pendant features the words: "George Jones died February 2, 1827, Aged 22 years, 1 month and 13 days". Memorial jewelry is most associated with the Victorian Era, specifically after the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria‘s husband, in 1861. Queen Victoria wore mourning black for decades after his death and set the trend for the rest of the country.

This is part of our ‘reworked and reimagined‘ collection, where we‘ve taken an antique brooch and turned it into a pendant.
