Edwardian 15ct Gold Enamel, Pearl and Diamond Mourning Locket Brooch, Dated 1901

An exceptional Edwardian mourning locket brooch dating from the very beginning of the twentieth century. The oval black enamel centre is decorated with an elegant floral motif set with old and rose-cut diamonds, surrounded by a luminous border of pearls and finely worked 15ct gold.

The reverse is beautifully engraved: “Elizabeth Dalzell, Died 8 April 1901”. The locket compartment opens to hold a photograph or other keepsake, and the existing picture can be removed by its new owner. Rich in personal history and symbolism, this is a particularly substantial and moving piece of antique memorial jewellery.
